diskwarrior or nortons unerase may find some files,
some version of 7.6.1 was not made to work with 7x00 series
i made the mistake to install one once,
- did you keep all your files on the same partition/drive that you installed on !?

k

I decided to upgrade from System 7.5.5 to System 7.6.1 on my Power
Macintosh 7200/120 so I could play Warcraft II BattleNet Edition. I
did how I usually do it. Insert the CD, restart while holding down
"C", delete all my old system files and utilities (to give me the feel
of a new system) and start the instillation. Everything seemed to go
normal during installation. I restarted my machine and the System
Started up, but when I got to the finder a dialog "Rebuilding Desktop
Folder", appeared. After that the system froze. I restarted and it
then booted off the CD and gave me the usual dialog about my drive
being unreadable and needing to initialize it. The only thing that I
did different then the thousand of times before was update the drive
drivers like it suggested.
