PCCSC Sloop Pacific Coast Championship
Oct 20-21, 2007 Hosted by California Maritime Academy At Richmond Yacht Club Regatta Highlights: After running a five race southern area elimination, racing got underway around 2:30 in 12 knots of wind with puffs of 18 knots in the South Hampton Shoals. Four races were run on Saturday in tight racing. Hawaii led with four 2nds followed by USC with two bullets and two fourths. Stanford and CMA were tied for third. No protests were filed and one request for redress which was disallowed after the hearing Sunday morning. On Sunday the wind was light out of the east with a 3 knot current from the north. Racing got underway about 11:00 in 6 knots of wind. The fleet stretched out with so much so there was not time to relocate the weather mark after the last boat rounded before the first boat was to the leeward mark. Relocated the second leeward mark gave the boats a better downwind run. UCSD was able to capitalize on the shifts and won. The breeze settled a little more in but still light. The current now coming down the course. The last two ra! ces saw UH and CMA trading 1st and 2nd. Hawaii won by 6 points with consistent sailing. Thanks to PRO Cam Lewis and the race committee team for a great job.
