As summer approaches it's time to start thinking about completing your Level 1 or Level 2 certifications. There are several courses scheduled in the Southern California area before most programs start in June. Please check http://www.ussailing.org/training/calendar/sb_calendar.asp for course listings. COURSE REQUIREMENTS Power Boat Certification: For all students planning on working in California you may take an online test to pass this requirement for 2007. On average it is a $20.00 fee to take the test, for a list of all test providers please visit courselisting <http://www.nasbla.org/courseListing.php> a common company is the American Boat Operators Course and it is available here <http://boatingcertificate.com/California/studymaterial.aspx> . Please plan ahead as you will be required to present your certificate at the first day of the Level 1 Course. First Aid/CPR: Current CPR and First Aid certificates are required before you can be certified as an instructor and it is highly recommend that you complete both before the class. US SAILING Individual Membership: Due to insurance regulations all instructors are required to be US SAILING Individual Members. SCYYRA recommends prepaying for the 3 year membership when you enroll in the class, that way your Membership and Instructor Certification run out at the same time.
