PCCSC SAILORS OF THE WEEK
SPRING ‘09

Each week of the regular season, the PCCSC selects Sailors of the Week for outstanding performances in Coed, Women's and Team Racing Competition. The categories for the awards will be Coed sailor of the week, which could just be skipper or crew or both skipper and crew, Women’s sailor of the w eek,
which could just be skipper or crew or both skipper and crew. To be a
Women’s sailor of the week you must be on a team that is all women i ncluding both divisions, the sailor can be sailing a coed regatta but they must have a full women’s team. During the spring season only we may also name a Team
of the week for a team’s performance in any team race regatta.

You are part of the process! Each Monday we will accept nominations from the sailors and coaches of the conference for Sailor of the week awards. All nominees will be mentioned along with the Winners. Please participate and be part of recognizing great performances by your peers. Email your nominations
each week to John Vandemoer at [email protected].

Week #1

Coed Sailor of the Week: This past weekend was the south points 1 and 2 hosted by US San Diego at Mission Bay Yacht Club. This week’s coed sailor of the week is Ryan Sullivan from UCSB. Ryan won A division on Saturday with Christina Nagatani and then came back on Sunday and won B division with
Lauren Lorenzi. Ryan opens up the season with a win in both A and B
congrats!

Women’s Sailor of the Week: Our women’s sailor of the week are two ladies who sailed A division in both regattas for UCLA Varsity, the whole team were women’s sailors. Kelly Kephart and Joana Que sailed well finishing in 9th in A division on Saturday and 4th in A division on Sunday. Nicely done
ladies!

Around the conference: Coming up in two weeks we will have the first two North points events at Monterrey Bay and then the third and fourth points regattas at UC Santa Barbara. Both events will be tight as it is part of the qualification for PCC’s. So, good luck to everyone. We will also h ave two teams heading East for team race events, Stanford and UCSB will head to Florida for the Mendelblatt Team Race. This is the first major team race of the year and should be a good first test for both teams with 18 quality teams to compete against. Good luck to those two teams! See you in two
weeks for our next Sailors of the week. Remember to nominate.
