PCCSC SAILORS OF THE WEEK
SPRING ‘09
Each week of the regular season, the PCCSC selects Sailors of the Week
for outstanding performances in Coed, Women's and Team Racing
Competition. The categories for the awards will be Coed sailor of the
week, which could just be skipper or crew or both skipper and crew,
Women’s sailor of the week, which could just be skipper or crew or
both skipper and crew. To be a Women’s sailor of the week you must be
on a team that is all women including both divisions, the sailor can
be sailing a coed regatta but they must have a full women’s team.
During the spring season only we may also name a Team of the week for
a team’s performance in any team race regatta.
You are part of the process! Each Monday we will accept nominations
from the sailors and coaches of the conference for Sailor of the week
awards. All nominees will be mentioned along with the Winners.
Please participate and be part of recognizing great performances by
your peers. Email your nominations each week to John Vandemoer at [email protected]
.

Week #2
Coed Sailor of the Week: This past weekend was the south points 3 and
4 hosted by UCSB and The Santa Barbara Yacht Club. This week’s coed
sailor of the week is Chris Vetter and A. Brock Kraebel from USC.
This duo won A division on both Saturday and Sunday by winning 7 of
the 11 races sailed. These guys also did it in all conditions from
2-20 kts. Congrats to Chris And Brock for two nice wins and for being
Sailor of the Week!!
Other Nominations:
Matt Foster UCSB
Paige Johnston CAL Maritime
Women’s Sailor of the Week: Our women’s sailor of the week are two
ladies who sailed A division in both North regattas for Stanford
University. Hannah Burroughs and Catherine Cu finished off a
successful weekend by finishing 3rd in A division on Saturday and
winning A on Sunday. Nice job Ladies. The North 1-2 event also saw
challenging conditions but was well run by CSUMB. Thanks Monterey bay
for running a solid event and for kicking off the North Series.
Congrats to our ladies for being Sailors of the week!
Other Nominations:
Kelsey Rupp USC
Charlotte Bergin USC
Shelby Rhodes USC
Team Race Team of the Week: Stanford University is our Team of the
week for finishing tied for third at the Mendelblatt Team Race. Hosted
by University of South Florida. Both Stanford and UCSB traveled to
this event in Tampa FL and were greeted with 70 degree weather and
great 5-12 kts breeze, just perfect conditions for Team Racing. There
were 16 teams at the event and provided great competition. Congrats
to Stanford!!!
Around the conference: Coming up this weekend, the North series moves
to Cal Maritime to battle for the North 3-4. Also this weekend is the
Charleston Coed intersectional in South Carolina, Stanford and UCSB
will be heading East for that Coed Regatta. The UCLA women will be
heading of f to Tampa, FL to sail the USF women’s, hopefully they will
have the same conditions as last weekend. Good luck to all our PCCSC
teams. As always remember to nominate.
