PCCSC SAILORS OF THE WEEK

SPRING ‘09

Each week of the regular season, the PCCSC selects Sailors of the Week for outstanding performances in Coed, Women's and Team Racing Competition. The categories for the awards will be Coed sailor of the week, which could just be skipper or crew or both skipper and crew, Women’s sailor of the week, which could just be skipper or crew or both skipper and crew. To be a Women’s sailor of the week you must be on a team that is all women including both divisions, the sailor can be sailing a coed regatta but they must have a full women’s team. During the spring season only we may also name a Team of the week for a team’s performance in any team race regatta.

You are part of the process! Each Monday we will accept nominations from the sailors and coaches of the conference for Sailor of the week awards. All nominees will be mentioned along with the Winners. Please participate and be part of recognizing great performances by your peers. Email your nominations each week to John Vandemoer at [email protected] .

A special thanks to our Committee: Dana Jones, Mike Segerblom and Brian Stanford.

Week #4

Coed Sailor of the Week: This past weekend we saw action again on both coasts with a major Team Race in Charleston and the first meeting of North and South at the South #5 Designate. Our Coed Sailors of the week come from the South #5 where we saw some challenging conditions with light pressure and shifty new directions. However one team was consistent to win A division getting all single digit finishes. This week’s coed sailor’s of the week are Chris Vetter and Christy Tatchell from USC.

Nominations: Chapman, UCI J, Keely Scates/Morganne Renoir

Women’s Sailor of the Week: The Trojan’s are on a role by winning both sailors of the week! Our Women’s sailors of the week are Charlotte Bergin and Natalie Rastello. Their fourth place finish in A division helped their Ladies of Troy finish 5th overall. Congrats to USC they have had more sailor of the week nominations and winners then the whole PCCSC!

Team Race Team of the Week: This past weekend the Stanford Cardinal wen’t to Charleston for the Bavier Team Race. It was a quality showing by the Cardinal finishing 6th overall and just two wins away from the Final four. Stanford also took races off of the top teams in the country, St. Mary’s, Georgetown and Navy, all teams ranked in the top 10 in the country. Congrats to Stanford!

Around the conference: Coming up this weekend, we have the first two PCCSC Team Races the Jeremy McIntyre at Stanford and the Cal Team Race at Cal. We also have two East Coast events going on this weekend with the Stanford women heading to Charleston and the Chapman Coed team heading to Eckerd. Good luck to all our teams this weekend!!

Please remember to nominate this weekend for our Sailors of the Week!!!
