Panoramic images for background are very rare case and even if there
is some, putting it onto backgroung is possible only if it's some nature
lanscape, otherwise you will cut something. Have a half of face on side
of one desktop and other half on other or have most of desktop filled
with color (if image is not panoramic) is much worse. It's why from 1.0.1
version each monitor is handled separatedly.

From my point of view, in the 1.0.0 background display was incorrect
since I was forced to change background to just color which was anyway on
most of desktop and half of face or half of flower on part of it and that
look was too much unpleasant when image 1024x768 was put onto screen of
size 3840x1080. Just try it sometime and you'll understand how terrible
it is.
But you're right, there should be a way to put some landscape on the
desktop. I have some plans to implement different backgrounds for each of
monitors so you will be able split your landscape in two and get whole of
it on your two-monitor system. I'll implement it later. Thank you for the
