I am slightly surprised that anybody is considering the details of pcre2_maketables(), because I thought Unicode was taking over the world. :-) However, I see no problem in adding pcre2_maketables_free() as you have suggested, and indeed, it probably should have been there already as there are free() functions for everything else. I will implement it in due course. I don't see any new API happening in the foreseeable future, but yes, an opaque type should have been used. I wasn't paying enough attention when PCRE2 was created.
