Thanks for the great reply.
One thing though, pcre2test.exe on windows also works with file as input and as
output, these files are utf8 encoded. Given that it's not using a terminal in
this case (not sure about nonWin Os), could it be made that the proper
character be encoded in utf8 instead of plain text \x{} ? It would make more
sense, but I understand the concern about terminals.
