It sounds useful John. I have two Cisco/Linksys routers and they give you
an option to save a text file of your settings to your desktop. I used that
option, then moved the file to my password USB storage thumb drive. I just
opened the file with a *.txt viewer and was able to read it just fine. If
you get a message that the file is binary just try to open it
anyway..........I did and it worked.

Retrieve your router's password
There are two different passwords associated with your Wi-Fi
router. Your wireless network key keeps people off your network. And your
router password keeps people out of your router's settings. But don't you
have enough passwords as it is?
You probably won't use either of these passwords very often.
It's hard enough to remember the ones you use every day. So, it's easy to
get locked out of your network or router.
Many routers have the option to back up your router
configuration. This backup file contains all of your routers settings.
That
includes the wireless network key and router password. Unfortunately, this
file can only be used to restore settings. You can't see the settings
individually.
RouterPassView changes this. It can look inside a router's
backup file. And it can retrieve the wireless network key and router
password. It doesn't officially work for all routers. Check the supported
routers list for yours. But if yours is not there, it may still work.
