While testing my machine (P166, 128 MB RAM, Win 98 SE) for memory problems,
I came across the following mystery ...
If I boot from the start-up menu straight to Command Prompt and type "mem"
I get the following:

MS-DOS is resident in the high memory area.
... showing the full total amount of memory.
Whereas, when I do the same thing from a Dos window, this is what I get:

Why the discrepancy in the left-hand column of total memory, and why the ?
in the second column ??
I thought it might be because of my intermittent memory problems with this
machine, but I tested the same Dos commands on another Win98 machine and
got the same results.
Can anybody elucidate please? Thanks!
