PCworkers, How can you tell if a virus warning is a hoax? The Computer Incident Advisory Capability (CIAC) is part of the U.S. Department of Energy and suggests that you took at several aspects of the virus warning to determine whether it's something to be concerned about. 1. Does it contain technical-sounding language? If it sounds technical, it may be just gibberish. 2. Does it appear credible because of an association with a company or person "who should know?" Just because a message appears to come from an authoritative source, don't believe it until you've checked with the CIAC. 3. Does it encourage you to send it to "everyone you know?" This process is how a hoax can "send itself by E-mail." 4. Does it tell you that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has sent out a warning? The FCC NEVER issues warnings about hoaxes. http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org/ -- Gerry Boyd -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
