You had a corrupted, missing, damaged, cross-linked, or otherwise damaged
DLL file named "Wininet.dll" that gave you an error message. You need to
re-install this file. Keith gave an example web page that showed how to do
this (using Eudora).
Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnny programs rely on Wininet.dll. To see some of
them and learn how to get the proper version for your system and for the
program that gave you the error in the first place, visit the MS DLL Help
Database:
http://support.microsoft.com/servicedesks/fileversion/dllinfo.asp
Type in "Wininet.dll" in the File Name area and press Submit button
When page blinks, scroll down to look at results.
Let's pick the first line (you may need another depending upon your error
message) for version 5.50.4134.600
Click on "More Information"
In pop-up window look at results
I find that IE 5.5 (among other programs) uses this file and it's found in 4
separate places:
iemil_3.cab
iew2k_3.cab
ient_2.cab
ie_2.cab
Using Start -- Find -- Files or Folders
Search for Wininet.dll
Located at C;\WINDOWS\SYSTEM on my PC
Right click and select Properties
Click on Version tab
I see mine is 5.50.4522.1800 which is later than any of those shown above
I used Start -- Find -- Files or Folders
Named: *.cab
Containg text: Wininet.dll
and found ie_s2.cab located in C:\Windows Update Setup Files
So I know where my new version is located if I had to extract it from the
cabinet (.cab) file.
To learn how to extract files from *.cab files, open a MS-DOS Window and
type "extract | more"
C:\windows\extract | more
Microsoft (R) Cabinet Extraction Tool - Version (16) 1.00.603.0 (08/14/97)

EXTRACT [/Y] [/A] [/D | /E] [/L dir] cabinet [filename ...]
EXTRACT [/Y] source [newname]
EXTRACT [/Y] /C source destination
cabinet - Cabinet file (contains two or more files).
filename - Name of the file to extract from the cabinet.
Wild cards and multiple filenames (separated by
blanks) may be used.
source - Compressed file (a cabinet with only one file).
newname - New filename to give the extracted file.
If not supplied, the original name is used.
/A Process ALL cabinets. Follows cabinet chain
starting in first cabinet mentioned.
/C Copy source file to destination (to copy from DMF disks).
/D Display cabinet directory (use with filename to avoid extract).
/E Extract (use instead of *.* to extract all files).
/L dir Location to place extracted files (default is current directory).
/Y Do not prompt before overwriting an existing file.
The rest is left up to you. I already did too much (:>)
