Hi Ted,

There may be some options in the AOL tray icon (bottom right). On
machines I setup that include AOL, I usually use a local dialup to update
Windows. After I logon using the local ISP, AOL asks, "AOL has detected
that you are connected to the internet. Do you want to start AOL?" So
the answer is either in your auto-AOL options, or the other computer is
set up for "Bring your own access". Probably the latter.

Subject: PCWorks: Connecting to AOL through a Dialup ISP

When my father is at home, he connects to AOL through a local ISP because
there are no local AOL numbers where he lives. I was trying to set up
his
new computer to do so, but could not get AOL to automatically bring up
the
Dial Up for the ISP automatically. Currently he now has to click on the
Dial Up Networking icon for the ISP, connect and then click on AOL. I
know
it can be done because his notebook is set up to do so. But, even
comparing
the two configurations side-by-side, I could not find where to have the
ISP
dial up happened automatically when AOL is started.... Any clues to
where I
should look??
