Keith and others,

There seems to be a MUCH bigger problem with version 5 than this I found
the other day.

I downloaded the new version 5.0 reader for use on my system at work,
which is running Win2K. When I tried to open any number of PDFs located
on one of our servers, which were NEVER a problem with earlier versions
of reader, in every case, I got the the same error message, that the PDF
either was incorrect format or corrupted.

After this, I called Adobe's support service, trying to figure this one
out, since, again, they were never a problem previously in being able to
read them (they are PDFs dealing with each type of printer connected
through the Novell Network, for configuration issues that people
connected to the network might be dealing with - somewhere between 50
and 100 PDFs).

The answer I got from customer service was quite surprising - she told
me that the new version of the reader, version 5.0, has problems in
various cases of reading and displaying PDFs created with earlier
versions of Acrobat. And there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason
for when the problem shows up. So one PDF will open and display
perfectly while another will end up giving this error message.

What is interesting is that I posted a message about this issue on the
reader forum on Adobe's support area, and did NOT receive one response
from anyone to this issue, either from Adobe's people or other users.
Since it is known problem, am surprised that Adobe would not have
already released some kind of update to the problem to take care of the
issue.

So now I have to have both version 4 and 5 readers on my system at work,
while I will need the version 4 reader as well as the full version 5
package on my home system - BAH AND HUMBUB!!!!
