Don't know if this will help but Woody at Woody's Office watch had problems
with Outlook XP when he had Word selected as his email editor. There is an
option in Outlook somewhere to change that. He didn't lockup every time
though so that may not be your problem. You can also try reinstalling.
Woody recommended that people wait until Service pack 1 to install Office
XP.
