In the wee hour of 10:53 AM 7/8/01 -0700, Jack and Sue bequeathed such
tales as these:

If battery time is important and it usually is if you want to run the DVD
drive on a laptop, DVD's can suck battery time immensely. Some people may
have a problem with this but the best laptop for dvd playback with the best
battery time I've found so far is the new Apple iBook
http://www.apple.com/ibook/. It weighs in at 4.9 pounds, and you can have
it with a dvd drive for under $1500.00 or for another $300.00 you can have
it with a combo DVD/CD-RW drive so you're all set for whatever comes your
way. And the Apple OS is barely different from windows at all, plus if you
load it up with all the MS software like Office, Outlook and IE it may even
crash as much as a PC laptop. Keep in mind that the Apple cpu's tend to be
the equivalent of PC cpu's 1.5 times faster. HTH
