I had the same problem a while back. It would time out and never complete.
To tell you the truth right now I don't see any need to scan email as I
download it. I don't ever open attachments unless I save them first and if
you save an attachment to you hard drive Norton scans it anyway if you have
auto-protect on. I just disabled that function.
