Peter....as with any other version of Office, the ideal way to install XP is
clean (after uninstalling 2000 and running the appropriate eraser
tool).....but this is ideal......just tell your friend to upgrade.....but do
NOT register it until he feels it is working fine.....that way if he DOES
decide to uninstall and reinstall clean, he won't have to call MS and
reregister if there are any glitches in the install.....I think you have 14
days before you have to register (?)
many people upgrade Office in all it's versions and do just
fine......personally, I prefer clean installs of ALL software, but I'm in a
position where I have everything backed up so clean installs are no
biggie.....if your friend is also in that position, I would say clean
installs almost guarantee good installs (note the word "almost"
LOL).....upgrades aren't always as lucky
if he decides to uninstall/clean install, the link to the eraser for 2000 is
on my Office page and I HIGHLY recommend the eraser, otherwise his registry
will be a mess

Subject: PCWorks: Office XP Upgrade or full
A neighbour of mine has purchased a copy of Office XP for their computer
and they tried to install the program and were asked if they wanted to do a
complete installation or an upgrade to their Office 2000 installation. I
don't know what to say to them, as they use every component of office and
have done so since Office 95. Is anyone else running XP, and what type of
install did you choose?
