Netscape Communicator 4.X requires that the connection to the internet be
made through a 32-bit client (like a LAN) or 32-bit software, provided by
your ISP (Internet Service Provider). The error is being generated because
a 16-bit piece of software is being used in the connection. This implies
that you have a "bad" installation or an older (incorrect) DLL file.
Check the winsock.dll file in C:\windows and the wsock32.dll and
wsock32n.dll files in c:\windows\system. Also look out for multiple
copies -- you should only have one each. Use Start - Find - Files
or Folders. Extract newer ones using SFC.
You might have to un-install and then reinstall Netscape Communicator 4.x.
