It would depend on what v*r*s is on the machine. With some, even
formatting won't remove it. Her best bet is to try a AV scan with a good
scanner to remove and repair the machine. Then there will be no problem
of passing it to another if they should use a floppy in that drive and
then return it to their own. I have used a free, dos based program
called F-Prot that does an excellent job. It is still available and is
free for home use. You can get it here:

I don't know if the windows version is free, but the dos version is and
is very effective. You may have to open it on your machine and then
transfer parts to two floppies. Once they are on the floppies, push the
write protect slide up so that nothing can be written to the floppy.
Copy all the files from the two to a folder on the old machine. As its
a Dos program, there is no need to install and all files go into one
folder. Run it and scan the entire drive.
