Since sending the information below I have investigated further.

It appears that after, I have used Internet Explorer 6 and have
disconnected the whole system starts to slow down and becomes like an
old crank engine getting progressively slower. I have difficulty moving
the Mouse around even to shut off.

I have 198 RAM and normally my system is very quick. It only happens
after I have used IE6.

I have carried out a System File Check and a Norton Vi*us check.

A couple of files were altered and have been restored there were no
problems high lighted by Norton.

Unfortunately I do not know what programmes were running in the
background before I downloaded IE6 but the following are there now;
Explorer
Office short cut bar
Msmsg
Wkcalrem
Osa
Iowatch
Incd
Navapw
Rundll
Systray
Point32
Arupld32
Arman32
Wmexe
Imgcon

I had a trial version of a cookie controlling programme which worked
fine for the couple of days before I installed IE6 and I wonder if that
was designed for IE5 and is causing the problem now that I am using IE6.

Phew that's my lot I hope someone can help.
