Hi, Don't know about 1 and 2, but for 3., yes you need OCR software. I would recommend you look at ABBYY FineReader 5.0 Pro if you want something low priced, easy to use, and that according to a ZDNet review, performs as well or better than OmniPage Pro which is considered the "king of the hill" in OCR, but costs about $500.
