Thank you Karl, Ben, Keith, and Cristy for your many suggestion to remove "Scheduled
Tasks" from the Systray (not even sure how it got there but it's gone now). Misconfig,
Startup did the trick.

Now it's academic but I'm still curious as how to remove that program (if that's what 
it
is) from my Windows98 system. Ben, I never installed anything called "Critical Update"
so deleting that wouldn't help. It's interesting that it seems to be in integral part 
of
Explorer (that's not IE).

What would happen if I deleted (after backing up the Registry), deleted the Scheduled
Tasks folder. It's there if you use the registry "find" ... shining there in the left
pane.
