Win98 64 Megs RAM

A friend purchased this printer, and it won't print in Word, sporadically in
IE 5.5
I downloaded an updated driver, which didn't help.
Unplugging and re-plugging this device causes a new hardware search and
driver database search.
Test page prints OK, but occasionally locks up the system.
Any thoughts?
