OK, still trying to find a potential home for the Maxtor UDMA 100 60 gig drive I ordered.....
I gave up on the idea of trying to get it to work in my old '486. I opened it up to see if I could put a UDMA 100 PCI controller and the damn mother board is so old that there isn't even a PCI slot..... All ISA (belongs in a museum, I guess). Anyway, Computer Geeks has an interesting bare bones system for around $75. It states that the mother board has two IDE ports that support UDMA/66.
