Gerry,
Any time I logon my DSL using XT, the connection is instant. . .no delay at
all.
I have the IE Icon on my desktop which I click, then immediately my ISP
(pppoe)
window pops open, next I click connect, and immediately IE is activated
and ready. . .it's almost unreal. This is from a cold boot, as I do-not
leave my system
run when not in use. (I know there's lots of controversy about leave run. .
.but I've
powered down for 20+ years with no problems)
With both Win98 & ME, it generally takes several seconds (30-60) to activate
and the lights
on my modem are indicating activity during this time while they are
searching for
a connection.

I'm guessing Ed means when DSL needs to be connected via the PPPoE client
after a re-boot or when the DSL line connection goes down (weekly or less
in the case of Earthlink). If this is true, then yes, there is a connection
delay as the authentication needs to be done with Earthlink. My connection
takes some time but how much is a guess; a minute? less? more? I don't
know. I'd probably notice "instant" but that has never occurred in 2-1/2
years.
