My brother in-law just purchased a new system with XP home edition installed. And it does the same scandisk run at startup. However if one allows the scandisk to run then the computer will never boot completely. The scan disk rolls along until 30% then reboots to start fresh. Same with defrag, gets to 30% and reboots the computer. I'm advising reinstallation of the OS but he hopes it's not another trip to the WPA centre. Any thoughts?
