Yes, this is true only if a front case fan is used. If there are no fans in the case, and it's a medium to large size case, it will run cooler with it open. :-) The exception would be with a power supply that uses a dual fan (one external), this may run a bit cooler with the case closed, or possibly with a very small 'micro' case (one 5.25" bay & 1 3.5" bay) and no fans (except for the ONE in power supply of course), it may run cooler with the case closed.
Matt, shoot some compressed air into the jacks on the card and try and find something (not a q-tip) that will fit into the jacks and clean them. Do the same for the jacks on the speakers. Also turn down the SOFTWARE volume control (in the system tray or mixer control panel) and the "line in" input on the mixer, and for any other input devices you may have active there. It could be distorting from being set to high. Try replacing any cabling you can, and also rearrange the cables (something could be interfering with the capacitance or inductance of the cables), then try to reinstall the drivers, and maybe use a different slot. Might be worth a try to shut down all programs running the BG then try the audio.......It's possible some program could be interfering with the sound card drivers. Try some updated drivers. If you still have the problem after all that, card is probably bad. -Clint God Bless Us All Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com http://ComputerHardware-ConsumerElectronics.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Johnson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <<Can they run too cool?!?>> hardware is not my forte, but I do know that most well-designed PCs situate the hardware inside the box in a way that allows for the best airflow and if you leave the box open, the airflow is NOT as efficient and therefore the computer runs HOTTER not cooler not that I think that's your problem in this case, but just something I think you should know Linda -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Matt Peter, My last action was to physically remove the card and give it a and the slot a good blow of Dust Off and re-seated it snugly. Still have the crackles. To answer your questions, The case is open, quite honestly, for no good reason, just got lazy about putting it back on last time.
