Good evening - Searched both the Microsoft Knowledge Base and PCWorks archives and came up with nothing, so here I am. Have had a new Dell laptop with XP for about a month. In Control Panel under "Taskbar and Start Menu" if you choose the Taskbar tab and then check "hide inactive icons" in the Notification Area, you can then select "hide when inactive", "always hide" or "always show" for each of the icons listed there. The icons are further divided into current items or past items. The problem is that even when I check "always show" the icons in the past items listing will NOT show up in the notification area. At one time they did, but I can't figure out to get them from the past item area into the current item area. They won't drag and drop. It's a minor problem, but surely you ought to be able to see the icons you want in that area (used to be called Systray). As an example, I can't get the volume control to show itself (and yes, I have checked "place volume icon in the taskbar" in "Sounds and Audio Devices" in Control Panel.
I have tried locking the taskbar and not locking the taskbar. Nothing changes. Anybody have any ideas? If I can get this one solved, then I can move on to the big things like getting networking to function so I can print from my XP computer, using the printer on my Win 98 machine. I appreciate any ideas. Marilyn Milbrandt ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
