Just had a disastrous set-up of Windows XP as a duel boot to Windows 98. During a required restart, the set-up froze. This wiped out any way to access my computer including Windows 98. Hours later, was able to load Windows 98. Now when the computer is started I get a message " NTLDR is missing Press any key to continue". This then brings up "Boot Failure, insert Boot diskette and press any key". Although the required NTLDR is in the root directory I load a disk with the required files and continue to access Windows 98 from there. How can I restore my normal boot up? Running Windows 98 set-up again failed to fix it. Is the problem in the Master Boot Record and would running Fdisk /MBR restore the correct record without completely wrecking my Windows 98 OS? Sorry to be so long winded about this but I need to be sure I'm doing the right thing.
