Sure can. These direction are for v8.0, newer versions may have changed... I'm using Netcom.com as the ISP name, change for your ISP. Part 1 -- Setting up the Host PC Run PC Anywhere - and double click on the "ADD Be a Host PC Item" icon. The "PC Anywhere Be a Host PC Wizard" will start. Type in the Name for this the Host Connection Item (Netcom.com). It really does not matter what name you type in here - call the connection anything you wish. Click Next and Select TCP/IP for the What he connection device will this Host PC use? box. Click Next then Click Finish after deselecting the "automatically launch after wizard" check box. Now, You want to Set Security so only you or desired users can get in to control your PC when it's on the Internet. Right Click on the Netcom.com Host PC Icon, and select Properties. You will a see screen that has 6 tabs (Connection Info, Settings, Callers, Security Options, Conference, Protect Item). Click on the Callers Tab, and Select the Individual Caller Privileges radio button. Double click the ADD CALLER icon and step through the name and password information for that caller (i.e. Your Name). Make sure your passwords are at least 6 characters long, and contain a mix of upper and lower case letters with some numbers or special characters for added security. Once you have added yourself (and other callers if you desire), click OK to accept. WARNING WARNING WARNING - Make sure you set proper security! If anyone knows your Netcom.com name, and you happen to forget to enable security in PC Anywhere, ANYONE on the Internet can completely control your PC. Now you are ready to connect to the Internet and get your PC ready to accept Remote Control requests from the Internet. You should dial up the Internet and make sure Netcom.com is running. Now you can launch PC Anywhere and click on the BE A HOST Icon. You now want to double click on the BE A HOST Icon that you created for Netcom.com. Once you launch the Be a Host setting, your PC is now ready to be remotely controlled by using a remote control client. Your PC Anywhere screen will minimize and you should see at screen that says pcAnywhere Waiting... TCPI/IP Host: name at xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Even though the TCP/IP host says a different host name (which is the real host computer name, i.e., eskimo) than what you entered (Netcom.com), you will still be able to connect. PCAnywhere looks at the local hostname of the host machine, and not the ISP host name. Your computer can now take requests at your Netcom.com session. All you need to remember Netcom.com and never again deal with a IP address. Now you must set up the client side using PC Anywhere setup, so you can control the host connection we just set up. Part 2 -- Setting Up the Remote Client Click on the REMOTE CONTROL Icon on the button bar and then double click the Add Remote Control Item icon. Type in the Name of the Remote Connection Item (MyPC). It really does not matter what name you type in here - call the connection anything you wish. Now select TCP/IP as your connection device, and then type in the exact HOST NAME of the PC you wish to connect to (Netcom.com). Click Finish after deselecting the "automatically launch after wizard" check box. Now all you need to do to connect to your Host machine via PC Anywhere is to dial up to the Internet from your remote PC, and then run PC Anywhere. Click on the Remote Control Icon and then Double click on the Remote control session Icon that we just created (MyPC). You should then be connected to your Host PC usually within 20 seconds or so. If you have any problems, you could also try using the IP address of the Netcom.com name. To get the IP address of your host, open a DOS window (once you connect to the Internet) and try to ping "netcom.com". It will come back with an IP address. In order to change the host name to an IP Address, Click on the Remote Control Icon in PC Anywhere, and then Right click on the MyPc Remote control session Icon that we just created and select Properties. That will bring up the screen that has 6 tabs (Connection Info, Settings, Callers, Security Options, Conference, Protect Item). Select Setting tab.
