I doubt that is THE file. It probably just found 'mpt' within the word "DOSproMPT". On my PC, I have a file called mpt.000 and it's part of Adaptec. Are you running adaptec software? If so, and if you have it running all the time in the system tray, you don't need to. Just exe it when you use the CDRW drive. First reinstall it of course because it shouldn't be causing that error. Of course if you don't have it, all that is moot.
Run MSCONFIG (from the run command in the start menu) and uncheck boxes one by one that is listed in the startup tab until the problem goes away. When you narrow it down, reinstall the problem program/software. If you can't find it there, or that doesn't help, at the run command again run SFC and let it check for corrupt/bad files. It will prompt you for any restore files. Hopefully they will be on the win98 CD. If they are not, then you have to do a file find for the bad file, then right click it to see what it's part of. If it is from some other software or programs, you can install from that CD, or just reinstall that software. If the corrupt file is from Microsoft and it's not on the win98 CD (or any other MS product on CD you have), it's probably from the windows update site and you'd have to find out exactly what update it is from by searching MS' site for the file, then it could tell you what specific update it's from and you would reinstall that. If any corrupt files are found and are ON the win98 CD, sometimes just reinstalling windows is the fastest way. -Clint God Bless Us All Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynda Fisher" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> OS is Windows 98. File search on Mpt shows MS-DOS prompt; I'm not sure where to go from there. Thanks! Thanks, Lynda ------------------------------ From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED] -Clint Hamilton" An OS would help. Do a file find on your PC for that program, right click the file to see what it's part of (if you don't already know), then uninstall the program and reinstall it. IF it is NOT a program you need, then of course disable it from running in the background. Without knowing your OS, can't say anymore. - -Clint ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
