This is my message that I have send to a list.I think everybody needs to learn this easy way.
On Thursday, April 25 in [EMAIL PROTECTED] >>Hi David, >>In your thinking, would there be any advantage to my having two >>operating systems on my computer? >>I currently run WinXP, and like you, I have Partition Magic. If all >> of this sounds a little disorganized, it wouldn't surprise me, >>because I am new at computers. >>Jim First make a backup from your program that you will need them ,because it makes you brave. :)) I have read some documents about partitioning for mutiple booting, but they are not simple as much as my way.It seems that they want to go to Mars. And this is my way: For multiple Operatign systems on one PC: I assume your PC has a 40 Gbyte capacity. Reboot your PC from a Bootable Disket(for example win98) and goto DOS and run FDISK. Create a "Primary DOS partition"=8 Gbyte=This is your C:\ drive. Create a "Extended DOS partition"=16 Gbytes. Divide "Extended DOS partition" to two "Logical Partitions", that is each one is 8 Gbyte. These are your D:\ and E:\ drives. Now install win98 on C:\ drive. After installing win98, you will have C:\ ,D:\ and E:\. All your drives in win98 have (8+8+8)24 Gbytes . But your PC capacity was 40 Gbytes?:) Don`t worry. We will use the rest of HARD, that is (40-24=16) 16 Gbytes----> (40-24=16) Run win98. NOW insert your winXP CD in your CD Drive(Your CD drive is F:\). Right CLICK on F:\(CD drive) and click on "AUTO PLAY". Click on "New win XP Installation" or "Clean winXP installation". Don`t click on "UPGRADE INSTALLATION". You will be asked to choose a drive to install winXP. Don`t choose C:\ or D:\ or E:\ . Instead choose the "unpartitioned space" for installing winXP . Now WinXP installation program asks you--->Would you like to partition "unpartitioned space"? Answer Ya ya ya :)) YES YES . Now divide "unpartitioned space(16 Gbyte)" to two partitions. Each one is 8 Gbyte. Now would you like that your win98 be able to access to winXP drives or not? If you format your new partitions by NTFS, win98 will not be able to access to winXP drives. But winXP is able to access to win98 drives(FAT32). Of cource there is a program at www.sysinternals.com that give win98 the ability to access to NTFS drives. They will be G:\ and H:\ if you format them as NTFS. And they will be F:\ and G:\ if you format them as FAT32. Choose one of them and format your new partitions and install winXP on first new partition. If you choose NTFS,you will see these drives when you are in winXP---> C:\(win98 is on this drive), D:\, E:\ ,F:\(your CD drive) ,G:\(winxp is on this drive), and H:\. You will see only C:\ ,D:\, E:\ ,and F:\( your CD drive) when you are in win98. Now you have double boot. Run your winXP and goto CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM/and change your default OS from winXP to win98. My PC has a triple boot-->WinME=FAT32(C:\=8Gbyte), Win2000=NTFS(8Gbyte) and WinXP=FAT32(8Gbyte). But you must always install older versions first. I am very sorry because my English is not good. -- - -- Babak Memari [EMAIL PROTECTED] ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
