Hi John and all, This appears to have something to do with an unfinished installation (or uninstallation); more specifically with the file named, "wininit.ini". (BTW, I found the info by copying the first sentence of your error message into www.google.com ). A word about this file, "wininit.ini", it is occasionally used in certain vir*ses. I would suggest checking for vir*ses using Fprot for DOS after starting up in DOS mode with a startup diskette. Here's the link from Google:
