Hi Roger, Those surge supressor type have about a 500-600 volts before resistance is low enough to conduct to ground. Details here and the specs http://www.littelfuse.com/ also a great article about MOV's here http://www.chipcenter.com/eexpert/akruger/akruger032.html I have little faith in any of the $8-$100 surge supressors sure they may protect from some transient spikes but most are not fast enough to catch really short duration spikes and they will self destruct if the current is high enough.
