It's been running ok so the jumpers should be set correctly. Have you replaced the IDE cable?
I had this happen to me with a Western Digital drive. Go to the Western Digital web site and get their diagnostic software. Try to run it on the drive. You may have to disconnect your main hard drive and run the WD drive as a master to run the diagnostics. Check your jumper settings when you do this. On the drive I had, the diagnostics couldn't even see the drive at all. It was toast. WD has an easy RMA process.
