Jeff,
Here is what I use for settings in my registry in W98SE. You can import
these or use them as reference. Be sure you back up your registry before
doing anything though.
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Defrag\Settings]
"Disable loadwc.exe"="YES"
"Disable loadqm.exe"="YES"
"Disable ScreenSaver"="YES"
"Disable Wkdetect.exe"="YES"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Defrag\Settings\method]
@="FULL"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Defrag\Settings\scandisk]
@="TRUE"
"Disable loadqm.exe"="YES"
"Disable loadwc.exe"="YES"
"Disable ScreenSaver"="YES"
"Disable Wkdetect.exe"="YES"

All the best,
Roger
