I tried that before, it kept crashing my PC's.  I found it
not to work very well.  It would only end a few programs and
for most that typical window would pop up saying "program not
responding, you want to wait, end, or cancel"?  I've always
have VERY few things running in the BG, all I have to close
out of is Norton and sometimes my software firewall if it's
running.

Rather than Ctrl-Alt-Del out of everything, try EndItAll from
PC
Magazine.  While there are two versions, many prefer v1.0,

To fix your desktop, try PC Magazine's IconLock,
