There is nothing to click, the "always ask....." button is
grayed out. I click a download link for a zipped file, and
it just goes straight to a temp folder, then opens up.

I don't know where the IE repair tool is in ME and IE6. It's
not in the location it was in 98 & IE5.x
Thanks,

ME does behave as Win98SE did for me, Clint, and I just used
WindowsUpdate to install a service pack that suggests it will
correct problems with the ME restore feature. I have never
had a
problem with IE6, upgraded some time back. I suspect if you
click a few times on download, the system will eventually
remember that is how you prefer to download programs (rather
than
offering you the installation). You have to "train" a
computer
<grin>.

When I hover over an image (Opera has rights) I can "see" the
preview of the image without opening it. IrfanView MrSid
images
require clicking and opening, I have given rights to open
jpg's
to Opera, my preferred browser. But I have experienced no
problems with IE, simply stay away from it because of
suggestions
of insecurity. I am doing genealogy research so I am stuck
with
using IE at Ancestry to view census images and IE performs as
it should.

Have you tried a repair of IE6? It may be there is some
corruption that could be corrected with the repair tool.
