Ok, then it sounds like you don't have a "hardware problem",
just an old BIOS.

Only the board manufacturer can tell you that, unless they
give details on their BIOS updates. Have you looked at them
yet? http://www.zida.com/index2.htm They don't even have it
listed.

Oh well, no surprise the link for the BIOS is bad. You can
also try here; http://www.wimsbios.com/

Hi:
The Hard Disk is jumpered correctly, I proved it in other
MotherBoard (P4
MB) and HDD was recognized. My IDE controller is good, are
working with my
old HDD (20 GB) and the CD-ROM driver. The Award BIOS only
recognize a drive
up to 30 GB. I want to know if upgrading the BIOS is the
solution or the
problem migth be a hardware solution.
Hoping for any suggestions...
TIA
Alx

It still should be recognized in the BIOS as for as just
"SEEING" the drive goes. It's size may not be reported
correctly (if your board won't support the size, and that is
an old BIOS), but you should still see that a hard drive is
connected. IF you don't, it's not jumpered correctly, or
there is problem elsewhere (bad controller or hard drive).
Have you gone to the "auto detect" area for IDE hard drives
in the BIOS?

Hi all:
I have a ZIDA Tech. 5SVA-E Motherboard, I want to install in
my computer a
new Hard Disk Maxtor D540X-4D (40 GB Ultra ATA/100) but the
BIOS/CMOS do not
recognize this HDD, maybe is a large capacity to my Board.
This motherboard
has been programmed with Award BIOS setup utility, I read in
the User's
Guide about the BIOS Upgrade but I don't know if the upgrade
is the real
solution for that problem, and I'm afraid damaged the
motherboard... Any
suggestions?

Some Technical Specifications: ZIDA Technologies 5SVA-E
Rev:1.0 (9/18/97)
ROM PCI/ISA (2A5LDZ1A) Award Software Inc. Award Plug and
Play BIOS Extens,
v.1.0A
Hard Disk Maxtor D540x-4D 40 GB Ultra ATA/100.

Hoping for some advice...
(Sorry 'bout my english)
Best Rgds,
Alx
