Ok, then it sounds like you don't have a "hardware problem", just an old BIOS.
Only the board manufacturer can tell you that, unless they give details on their BIOS updates. It's size may not be reported correctly (if your board won't support the size, and that is an old BIOS), but you should still see that a hard drive is connected. IF you don't, it's not jumpered correctly, or there is problem elsewhere (bad controller or hard drive).
