I need a hand from you.
I was planning to buy a CDRW drive for my old Toshiba Tecra 510cdt laptop.
Is there any kind of CDRW drive that can be attached 'internally' to my
laptop?
I mean a CDRW drive that can just replace my old CDROM drive like what can
be done easily on a desktop PC.
I'm not sure what interface I have now for my CDROM drive (don't have the
manual), but this CDROM drive can be replaced easily with another CDROM
drive just by twisting a lever. The interface is seems like regular IDE/ESDI
interface on desktop PC.
I've seen many types of external CDRW, and it seems that my only choice for
these external CDRW drives are only drives with PCMCIA interface which I've
heard very slow on burning a CD.
My laptop system spec are :
- Pentium 166 MHz
- 48MB RAM
- 6 GB HD
- 1 LPT Port
- 2 COM Port (1 already used by modem)
- 2 PCMCIA slot
- 1 small port for external 3,5" Floppy Drive.
- 1 port I've never know its name/kind, have about 10 cm width and 5 mm
thick (networking port?). It have a symbol like this

So, is PCMCIA external CDRW drive my only choice?
Is that true that PCMCIA interface will degrade the drive speed?
Which is the fastest interface between USB, PCMCIA., and firewire?
I was also ever read a small piece of mail posting on the web about external
CDRW with LPT interface, is it really exist?
Please, any clues are really appreciated..
I hate to buy a complete new laptop just to use this CDRW drive.
I've tried to contact Toshiba web site but never get any replies.
