That's the problem, it IS going into 'fast
shutdown'....shutting down too fast.  This is a problem with
SE and ME, I don't recall every hearing of 98 doing it.

Have you installed any new software, programs or drivers
recently?  Has it always done this or just started?

I don't have 98 on any PC's over here, so going from memory;
run MSCONFIG ("System Information"), then go to 'tools', then
'startup' and I think it was under an 'advanced' button or tab
that you check or uncheck (depending on how it's worded)
something regarding "fast shutdown".

If that doesn't work then it's something you have running in
the background (which I'm more inclined to believe since it's
'98).
