Running Win98 first edition, PII, 128RAM, 350MH, Compaq Presario. Ongoing problem of about 4 month duration. First occurred approximately 3 weeks _after_ installing MSOffice2000. No other hardware or software installed during this period. Adding CD burner hardware/software and router/ethernet card in subsequent months have made no change. Norton AV kept up-to-date. V scans are negative.
Computer hangs on first attempt at boot, at attempting to load this line: "Dynamic load device isapnp.vxd" This is consistent. The last words that show on the screen, even on a successful boot, are "FIX PNP". From my investigation of the file "isapnp.vxd", this may be a 'fix' file? At this point there is no choice but turning off power switch and turning it back on. Even if choosing a normal boot the next time, the machine usually boots. Sometimes it takes 3 tries. Will go into safe mode anytime, even (if chosen) on first boot. Looking for info as to how to diagnose this aggravating problem. Have Bootlog Analyzer, and have been doing bootlogs for several days now. Have both unsuccessful boots and successful boots logged. Can see where it stops, but don't know what to do with the info I have. I have searched the web for info on this isapnp.vxd file, and have found locations where it can be downloaded. Would replacing my copy help? Sue ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
