I have found MaxMem to be a very efficient memory recovery tool Its available from
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/system/maxmem.htm You do want to set the values of recovery higher than the defaults, but it doesn't seem to take much in the resources and definately gives back the 'locked' memory. (settings suggested: Minimum 35%, Periodic 55% Agressive 70% Left click operation - Agressive. I have suggested this to a number of individuals on another list that were using ME.
