ORIGINAL PROBLEM Using �blockquote� or �marginwidth=� tags to put a margin on both sides of a webpage (I hope the English teacher notes how I'm spelling �webpage� � one word, no caps).

If you are using an editor you should be able to do a find and replace through all the pages. If you are up to a little bit more work, then this may save you a lot more work in the future. If you use CSS, especially an externally linked CSS file, then any changes you need to make for your site need only be done once. Doing it once is so much easier than editing a lot of pages. I use one, and I could not do without it. They can turn weeks of work into minutes. If you use XP, it has that function built into Notepad. I've only used the one in Notepad for single characters, so to replace a block of text, you may have to use a program since I don't know if Notepad supports multiple lines. If you need the program, let me know and I can find out where I got it. I can't say right now since I don't yet have it installed on XP. All I know is the name, "Find and Replace". You can enter that with the quotes into Google and find many hits, but I don't know which one is the one I use, can't recall. RESPONSE: Looking into my MSWord backup documents (I have about 20 of them) to delete any mention of BLOCKQUOTE, and then inserting MARGINWIDTH=�50� into the BODY tag will be very easy. Of course, I'll have to make exceptions where the blockquotes were used to set special paragraphs apart, which is what that tag is really used for. The problem opens up a new question � is there a way, when one wants to correct all the pages in a GeoCities website (which is what I have), to make those corrections as easily as it is to make them on one's backups (find/replace, etc.)? Each page is on a new editor in these servers; can changes be done in one swift keystroke? To answer Peter's question, �Are you hand coding or using an editor?� � I've never used any program to build a page; just used the editor in GeoCities typing the text and tags into it, or copying/pasting from a template or usually from another page, and then deleting what doesn't apply and adding what's new, but always keeping a close touch to the html. Someone from my backgrouns sees things on a screen, a webpage, and he wants to know how it got there. That's the real reason I started with a webpage; I just wanted to know how it all works. I picked the technique up from the various online tutorials, peeked into some �view sources� and �all of a sudden� html began to make sense. The computer to me will always be a mystery coming from a time when radio was in its infancy; that's why this medium intrigues me, why I'm poking into the registry, and when necessary, reinstalling the entire system � to me it's exciting. Of course, it also feeds into one's obsessive personality (everything in it's place, etc.) but that's another subject. I'm doing nothing commercial (very comfortably retired) and as though one site weren't enough, I built more sites, and now the idea of a personal site has lost some of its meaning. My thinking now is that the internet is meant for more important matters than building upon one's ego and shooting off one's mouth in a medium that seems completely free of repercussions. Not to get away from the topic, I think the repercussions are immense only we never see them; one word here can have untold effects upon our invisible readers .. but that, too, is another subject. Regarding Clint's idea of checking with all those browsers, that would be the responsible way of building a site (then I question how responsible I am). I use Netscape 4.79 and the only time I see the site on another browser is when visiting a friend who might use IE, and truth is that it doesn't always look the way I planned it. I remember one case where the viewer was using a larger font size on his browser which through all the centering off on my pages. I started to berate him for changing his font size; didn't matter to me that he was half blind, what mattered was that he was spoiling my pages. To me it's funny now and I can't take it seriously. If you know how I can easily make changes in all the pages in a site consisting of web space provided by the usual web space servers (like GeoCities or Tripod, to name a couple), please let me know. Right now all I see is the daunting job of opening each page (which I'll never do) and making the corrections. Of course, the backup pages are all correct (as far as my html skills go), but making those changes online might be another matter. An excellent example of responsible behavior would be removing dead external links (a totally different type of correction), something that is rarely done on many sites. My internal links are all fine but I have no plans of keeping the external ones current (that's a never ending task); I might just remove all pages that have such links going to pages that no longer exist. Fortunately I have enough links going within the site to pages that are under my control. I hope no one objects to my extended response.
