Could I get some opinion and advice on a subject that worries me since one
of my friends experience with his computer.
My present computer which is due for retirement was custom built and came
with the MS OS loaded and the
complete OS CD. I could do what I wanted with the OS
initially aided by advice from this group.
Now when I look through the sites etc I find that when the OS is already
loaded the CD that comes with is always, "slightly altered" and becomes a
recovery disk.
One company told me this is done with the agreement of MS and it shifts
technical support from MS to the computer company.
For instance on my friends computer with ME he cannot use the System Restore
facility because it is not there but the company provided CD has a section
called Second Chance which in effect is system restore.
His computer would not accept the ME installation from my CD which is the
full version.
It will only accept the company provided CD version.
Now I have an option of getting a computer with no OS installed from which I
then install one myself.
Now I have never gone this way before so I will ask is it easy to install a
OS from new?.
Any advice /opinion is welcome.
THanks
John
