Re:Solution:

In Win98, hold the shift key, right click the file, select "Open With",
select the program, check the "always use..." box. Works with all file
associations.
Same in XP, but it's not necessary to hold the shift key.

Hello again ... solution occurred to me while I was sleeping;
isn't that amazing?

Original problem:
When I open a jpg or gif file, I get the following message:
"Cannot find the file" (then it gives the path to that file
and the name of the file with the extension) [message
continues] "or one of its components. Make sure the path and
the filename are correct and that all required libraries are
available." After I click OK, the file opens fine. So what
does that mean and what am I missing?

Eureka, the solution
I originally forgot to mention that (when installing the os),
I configured all graphics to open with Lview (I also use
Irfanview when graphics get stuck). So to solve the above
situation, I re-directed all graphics again to my Lview exe
which I keep in Program Files. How? By again, changing the
file associations. The association "looked" correct and yet
seems it needed refreshing.

I clicked My Computer, View, Folder Options, File Types,
highlighted GIF, Edit, New, Action (open), Application
(browsed to Lview), OK, Close, and repeated the above for
JPG's. ...

I once read that for all problems, the solution lies close at
hand; I wonder ..
