Why don't you just try setting up dial-up networking within your computer and forget about using Earthlink's dialer? That's most likely where the problem is.

I use Elink dial-up when I travel (almost every weekend), and have never had these problems. But..I don't use the bundled software, either.

Simply get the POP and smtp settings from the Elink home page, set up your own dial-up networking, put a desktop link to the dial-up connection and to your Netscape (since you use that for both email and browsing), and don't bother installing the new Elink package. You don't need it.
