First, are you using a router with these modems. If so, double check to see if
you need to spoof your MAC address from your NIC card to the router. I have had
a significant series of dropouts over the last couple of months with an older
Motorola cable modem and a Corega router. I had Road Runner replace the modem
with a new Motorola Cyber Surfer which is what they use for all of their accounts
in our area now. It stays on and seems to setup quite well. I was still
haveing problems with the router, but did download an upgrade which may have
fixed the problem. (just installed yesterday so haven't had much time to test it
out, but so far today, no dropouts and usually have one by now [4 + hrs of
operation from morning boot])
